The List Recognizes Individuals Working to
Promote Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Technology Channels

Nancy Ridge is among the honorees on the 2022 Channel Futures DE&I 101 list. The list recognizes individuals from a wide spectrum of multicultural backgrounds who are driving diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) in technology channels through their words, actions and leadership.

“Today, women-owned businesses need our support now more than ever and Ridge Innovative is no exception. It has long been my personal mission to bring awareness to the importance of closing the leadership, revenue, and employment gap. Yet unified action by everyone towards living out that commitment will not only help to fuel economic growth and recovery, but also will empower women as leaders and bring about a more diverse, balanced and sustainable economy.”

The Channel Futures DE&I 101 is a list of the most prominent individuals in the technology channel who are focused on improving their organization’s performance and innovation by having the most diverse, equitable and inclusive teams and workplaces. The Channel Futures DE&I 101 members are those who are breaking new ground by showing the technology industry and entire business community that sound DE&I strategies can impact business outcomes.

The need for DE&I has been acknowledged in the information and communications industries for many years. But while any number of tech organizations have received attention for the DE&I programs they’ve launched, it’s the people at the grassroots level who get things started and keep the momentum going. As a result, the Channel Futures DE&I 101 recognizes senior, mid-level and future leaders so the entire channel can learn from their success.

“Diversity, equity and inclusion are vital for the future of all business, not just the channel,” said Kelly Danziger, vice president and general manager, Informa Tech Channels. “But despite its importance, most DE&I work goes on behind the scenes. This list not only recognizes those dedicated individuals who are working to promote DE&I in the channel but reiterates the importance of this work as well.”

Nominations for the DE&I 101 list were solicited on the Channel Futures website and through social media. Between April 28 and June 27, individuals could nominate themselves or others for the list. Applications were open to managers, leaders and individual contributors. All submissions were thoroughly reviewed by members of the Channel Futures editorial team and our advisory board members.

“When Channel Futures inaugurated the DE&I 101 list last year, we wanted to help elevate those who were having a profound impact on their organizations, those who were develop sound DE&I strategies and leaders who were vocal about making change,” said Robert DeMarzo, vice president of content, Informa Tech Channels. “The response by the entire channel has been incredible. Aspiring business professional strives to help other women navigate historically male-focused finance careers

ACW Honors Founder & Past President Nancy Ridge with Inaugural Award at the ACWConnect Live! Event

LAS VEGAS, NV – Alliance of Channel Women, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to accelerating the growth of female leaders in the technology channel, presented ACW Founder and Past President Nancy Ridge with its inaugural ACW Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony during the ACWConnect Live! Virtual Event, on November 1. Ridge was recognized for her tireless efforts in advocating for women in the technology channel.

Ridge, who is the Founder and President of Ridge Innovative, was instrumental in founding ACW. Noticing a deficit of women in the tech channel, particularly in leadership, ownership or revenue-generating roles, Ridge began conversations among female channel leaders about developing a community and resource for like-minded professionals. Soon after, in 2010, ACW was formed and became a not-for-profit organization. In the ensuing decade, ACW has become an established and respected organization dedicated to helping women in the channel succeed through education, mentoring and collaboration.

The List Recognizes Individuals Working to
Promote Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Technology Channels

AUGUST 9, 2021: Nancy Ridge is among the honorees on the inaugural Channel Futures DE&I 101 list. The list recognizes individuals from a wide spectrum of multicultural backgrounds who are driving diversity, equity and inclusion in the technology channel through their words, actions and leadership.

“I’m honored by this recognition yet my greatest reward comes from seeing our channel community respond to this real and pressing need,” says Nancy. “Special thanks to Informa and Kris Blackmon for giving us a place to rally in the wake of George Floyd’s murder in 2020. I’m grateful to see how many of us are now unified to create change within our community.”

The Channel Futures DE&I 101 list was created to turn a spotlight on the dedicated and determined individuals working to eliminate discrimination in the industry. The need for DE&I has been acknowledged in the information and communications industries for many years. But while any number of tech organizations have received attention for the DEprograms they’ve launched, it’s the peopl&I e at the grassroots level who get things started and keep the momentum going. And too often their efforts go unacknowledged.

“The publication of this list represents a milestone for the industry and channel in raising the visibility of individuals who are truly at the center of change in the industry,” said Robert DeMarzo, vice president of content, Informa Tech Channels. “These individuals are propelling their organizations forward when it comes to innovation, business growth and customer/supplier connections. The Channel Futures team is proud of its role in bringing this list, spearheaded by Managing Editor Buffy Naylor, to market recognizing such a great group of individuals.”

Nominations for the premiere DE&I 101 list were solicited on the Channel Futures website. Between April 15 and June 15, individuals could nominate themselves or others for the list. Applications were open to managers, leaders and individual contributors. All submissions were thoroughly reviewed by members of the Channel Futures editorial team with input from advisory board members.

“It’s been proven that a diverse workforce can make a company more innovative, productive and profitable,” said Kelly Danziger, general manager, Informa Tech Channels. “Our industry is constantly evolving to keep pace with advances in information and communications technologies and the workplace structure. It’s essential that the industry and the channel also evolve in step with the workplace demographics. Beyond making good business sense, it’s the right thing to do.”

Although January 2017 saw the collective power of women with the Women’s March and the “Me Too” movement, the last few years have been a dark time for gender diversity.

Recently, I had a conversation with a gentleman I respect greatly and really like as a human being. He is a longtime friend and colleague working in an organization that is an admitted “boys club”. As he mentioned their plans to mentor a couple of college graduates, I asked if any of them were female and the answer was no. It started a conversation that came close to being heated. His genuine and honest position is that he is not gender biased and neither is his company yet admitted he doesn’t think of gender equality. Because he and the other leaders in his company respect and admire female leaders and colleagues, in their minds it’s a done deal.

After assuring him I wasn’t accusing him or the company of misogyny, we got to have a conversation about what it would look like to create an intention to add female leaders to their organization, to seek young women to sponsor and mentor – in short, to create stated objectives with metrics just like any other important initiative. I’ve seen others do this in the channel with great success; and not just success in checking a box. Real success achieved because they hired women and their organizations are thriving as a result of their new diversity.

One of the positive things emerging from the tremendous pain and disruption of 2020 is the renewed focus on gender diversity. In the tech space and specifically the partner channel many powerful female voices are being raised and getting heard. Yet one of the greatest challenges is to overcome lurking bias under the cloak of complacency, an attitude of “it’s handled”. In 2021, I will raise my voice along with other female leaders once again that it’s not enough to hold an internal belief. We must make a commitment and take action on those beliefs to see them realized in the world. Not because “it’s the right thing to do,” not because of legislation, not even because it makes proven business sense although all those reasons are valid. Take action because ultimately, we get to demonstrate our love; for diversity, for each other and for how it expands our businesses AND our hearts.

Back in early June, I asked our channel/ tech community to step up and give to 501c3 Women Veterans Interactive (WVI) as a way to take action in response to the on-going inequality brought to light by Black Lives Matter. Back then we were all reeling from the murder of George Floyd. Today, 2 months later again we are stunned by the shooting of Jacob Blake and the subsequent racist anti-protester violence in Kenosha. It is heart breaking to see these horrendous acts continue to happen. I am sometimes overcome by my powerlessness in the face of so much hate.

Yet, as a community committed to change, we persist. In this particular case, the Channel has responded in a number of ways. In particular, Cristina Morrell, Channel Champion at LogMeIn, backed by Amy Wendel, Global Head of Corporate Social Responsibility, have stepped up with an in-kind donation of licenses, and expertise to help WVI CEO Ginger Miller create and launch the very first all-digital National Women Veterans Leadership and Diversity Conference, November 12 – 14, 2020.

“We are hoping to reach a bigger audience than ever before,” says Ginger Miller. “We’re anticipating 750 attendees and are launching our first Virtual Career Fair. It’s so vital that we continue to Connect, Engage, and Empower women veterans during COVID-19, and this virtual conference is the perfect way to do it. It fits directly into the Women Veterans Interactive mission of Meeting Women Veterans at their Points of Need through Advocacy, Empowerment, Interaction, Outreach, and Unification. I’m grateful to have the support of Nancy Ridge, the Channel, and the wonderful ladies at the LogMeIn, Cristina Morrell, and Amy Wendel.”

There is still more to do. WVI still has sponsorship packages available, as well as opportunities to support technical needs such as creating a landing page and a strategy for capturing the analytics from the show to extend its impact as well as lay the foundation for improving the next event.
